Thanks to the show Top Gear and my boyfriend, I now know, this is not the case.
I have a 2001 Ford Taurus. It has almost 90,000 miles on it, and has remained mostly unused for the past few years. Since I moved to California, it's basically sat in a lot and been driven a few feet every so often so the battery doesn't die. I know to do this now, because the battery did die completely on me a couple of years ago and my boyfriend replaced it, because he's nice like that.
(Here is what a new 2014 Taurus looks like....it's a different somewhat even from the 2013 version, the 2013 Taurus looked a lot like my car, except shiny. I guess this year they decided to modernize it, finally.)
My car still runs...but questionably so. It makes a horrible squeaking noise and it doesn't want to accelerate sometimes.
Since I have recently acquired a long commute, I actually do need a car of my own that can make the drive regularly.
But, I want a new car too, because, for one, the Taurus is INSANELY long, and therefor, very difficult to park. I have to take a lot of turns very wide, like you would in a 4 wheel drive truck.
Plus, let's face it, it's not a very pretty car, really. It's a rather bulky, "boat" car.
This one is even the same color as mine! Except it's not covered in bird shit and tree sap.
Now, if I'm honest with myself, I can't really AFFORD new car. Well, OK so I can at the moment, but as soon as my contract runs out at work (I'm a temp) I am screwed and can't afford a car.
If I get a job closer to home, it will probably be a retail job which means I'll be making a very small amount, so right NOW I could afford a "nice" car, but later I may not be able too.
So what I'm looking at is a Kia Rio or a Honda Civic Coupe. I would LOVE to get a Honda Civic Hybrid or a Honda CR-Z because I hate getting gas, I hate global warming, I hate hurting the environment and all the little (and big) animals in it. I HATE IT! So I would absolutely love, a hybrid...or, better yet, an electric car! But I think the hybrids may be a bit out of my reach.
I'm hoping to be able to make a post in the future with all cars I wish I could afford. There are some ridiculously expensive cars out there.
But one can dream....can't they?
Awesome, isn't it?
